WHO ARE YOU?
NAME: Lisa Richards
WHERE DO YOU LIVE: Guelph
WHAT ARE YOUR GREATEST ACHIEVEMENTS?
Without a doubt, my two boys, Braeden and Michael, are my greatest achievements.
TELL US ABOUT YOUR PETS:
I have a pet fish, named Bill.
WHAT IS THE ONE THING THAT VERY FEW PEOPLE WOULD KNOW ABOUT YOU?
Most people don’t know that I’m actually very shy and that I get nervous when people stand behind me.
WHO OR WHAT INSPIRES YOU AND WHY?
My parents who have been married for 50 years. They are the definition of strength, love and wisdom. They have always been supportive and strong for me. I lean on them for advice and encouragement and can always count on them to be honest and loving.
WHAT BRINGS YOU THE GREATEST JOY OR SATISFACTION?
That’s an easy one; being a mom. My two boys are my pride and joy. They have taught me what real love is. They are my world. I cry when they do, I smile when they do, I just don’t eat when they do, does any mom know what hot food is? They have already taught me so much about strength, courage, happiness and love. They fill me up.
WHAT MAKES YOU LAUGH?
This was tough, but I think I’d have to say happy memories. It’s those moments that no one else would get because they are “you had to be there” moments.
WHAT ARE SOME FUN FACTS ABOUT YOU?
– I don’t like peanut butter, coffee or bacon
– I am a middle child
– I have a large collection of Wonder Woman memorabilia
– I wake up every morning at 3:30 am
– I’ve been to New Zealand & Samoa
– I change into my jammies the second I get home from work
– I don’t swear! No really!
IF YOU COULD POSSESS ONE SUPER-HUMAN POWER, WHAT WOULD IT BE?
If I could possess one super human power, it would be the power of bestowal. I would like to be able to give everyone what they needed.
WHAT DOES COMMUNITY MEAN TO YOU?
When I think of the word community, four things come to mind – support, acceptance, inclusion and family. These are all things that I have come to love and respect about Guelph. I’ve been asked so many times over the years why have I stayed. First, I ask if they’d prefer I leave. Then I always respond with the same answer, which is because no matter how big this city gets, it still feels like a community to me. I love going to events and having the Mayor stop by to chat and take a selfie (he didn’t tell me to say that). I also love that the Chief of Police knows me by name and it’s not because of a criminal background or how many times I’ve been pulled over (never happens). I love seeing kids that recognize you from being in their school and sharing tea with someone you just met because they know your voice. This city is supportive, it accepts you, if you accept it. I always feel included and part of the family.
WHAT IS YOUR ALL TIME FAVOURITE MOVIE?
I have to go with two – Pretty Woman, because that’s the movie that taught me which utensils to use in public and The Replacements, because the underdog sports team gets me every time.
WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE VACATION SPOT?
Believe it or not, a cabin in the Smokey Mountains. We have taken several family trips to Tennessee to enjoy the down time. I love the friendly people and that there’s no internet.
IF THE WHOLE COMMUNITY WERE LISTENING, WHAT WOULD YOU SAY TO THEM?
This is a simple one, I’d want to say thank you. This community has welcomed me in for the last 21 years. It is such an honour to be able to share a small part of someone’s day with them. Knowing someone cared enough to tune in, just to hang out with me is so humbling. I feel like I get to have tea with friends every morning. It’s not a job when you enjoy every second of it.
