We have shared lots of information about athletics, academics, volunteering, leadership opportunities and this time we will focus on the clubs students get involved in at GSS. All clubs are open to all students!


Students meet to view Anime videos, share ideas, and draw in the Anime style. They discuss plots and the characters of different Anime series and movies that they have seen.


Open to all students who are interested in Art. Students meet weekly to create art pieces that vary from drawing, painting, printmaking, and sculpture. There are often tutorials where new media and techniques are shared. The students will work on individual projects of their choice or the club may work on group projects like murals, stained glass panels, and designs for posters. So if you are creative, like to explore art styles, and want to express your inner artist, this is the club for you!


Breakfast Club runs everyday from 8:15 am – 8:55 am in room 305 and Main Ro. This initiative is supported by Niagara Nutrition Partners, community businesses and GBF. Everyone who wishes can start the day with a nutritious breakfast. Everyone is welcome.


Chess club is a year round activity, involving both boys and girls. The Chess Club usually runs out of the library. Students enter tournaments in school and away. A great way to meet people, keep sharp and have fun.


The Computer Programming Club competes in several individual and team programming contests each year. It is a time for students who have an interest in computer programming to share ideas and sharpen their skills.


GSS Drama features a fun and physical theatre program with lots of opportunities to get involved. Our twice a year evening Cabarets feature the best of student work. Our Improv Team competes in various tournaments and has performed in Ottawa at the National Arts Centre as part of the National Improv Finals several times. Our Sears Drama Festival Show is a one act where students and teachers combine their creative powers to put on an original show.


Being environmentally conscious has never been more important. If you are passionate about the environment and have a desire to reduce the ecological impact of our school as well as helping build an environmentally responsible community… then… WE NEED YOU AND YOUR IDEAS!


Formerly known as the Gay Straight Alliance, the Positive Space Project is a group that meets weekly to promote acceptance of yourself, those around you and ultimately loving who you are. As well as touching upon LGBTQ topics and issues, we also discuss mental health awareness, anti-bullying, suicide awareness and how to truly understand that you are not alone.


For any students wishing to make a change in the world. It promotes social responsibility by taking part in events and activities that make the world around us a better place.


Offering a wide variety of ensembles for all levels of ability. Whether you are an instrumentalist or vocalist, we hope you will be involved in one or more of our extra-curricular groups. Annual events include Winter and Spring Concerts, as well as participation in provincial music festivals. Choose from the Concert Bands, Concert Choir, Jazz Bands or Percussion Ensemble.


Reach is a Canada Wide competition modelled after the trivia game show “Reach for the Top”. Students compete in teams of 4 to see who is fastest on the buzzer and answers the most questions correctly. Questions are based on facts you are learning in your classes, current events, and general knowledge trivia. We have junior and senior teams. Everyone is welcome, whether you think you know a lot or not. You may be surprised – and you’ll definitely have fun!


This club is recreational in nature and allows students the opportunity to participate in co-instructional, co-educational activity with peers and adults from the community. Evening skiing and snowboarding are possible. All safety equipment and lessons are mandatory.

Creativity is unleashed at the Writer’s Club. Students can share their written creations and even read the works of others. Whether it is poetry, writing or another creative endeavour, the weekly Writer’s Club is open to all students.


Do you like working with cameras or working with the latest photoshop programs? Are you a creative person? Do you enjoy working as a team with fun and energetic people? The Grimsby Yearbook Club could be the right fit for you. You will work in a high-paced and creative environment, learning skills that will carry over into your life outside of high school. Gain skills in the fields of journalism, illustration, graphic design, photography, and/or advertising.
