The 10th Lace Up for Love Walk drew crowds to Spencer Smith Park on May 12th, in support of Wellspring Birmingham Gilgan House. This was indeed an act of love as participants endured grey skies, constant drizzle and cool breezes all for the cause. The event was an amazing success, despite the weather. “There was at least $111,000 raised,” said Maneet of Wellspring, “and the organization was humbled by the incredible show of community support.”After some short announcements, Monika and her two young children took the stage to lead the crowd in a warm-up routine before the walk. The children’s 500m turnaround started at 9 am, with adults following fifteen minutes later with the 5k walk/run along the Lakeshore. Fresh fruit, Tim’s coffee and complimentary snacks were provided to participants. Wellspring is a community-based centre, offering programs and services to cancer patients at any stage in their journey. They charge no fees and receive no government funding, so operations are made possible only through the generosity of donors and funds raised through sponsorships and special events.
